Monopoly Tournament with modified "short game" rules

Each game has a limit of 5 players.

We will be playing a modified “short game" with some interesting variations:

1. Each player selects several properties before play begins. This eliminates the huge variation that can occur when properties are dealt randomly.

2. You do not need have a monopoly to build; you may build on any property you own. Like undeveloped properties, rents where you own a monopoly are doubled, so it is advantageous to trade to obtain a monopoly. This protects a player, who during the trading process, was unable to find a trading partner that netted him a monopoly. If you own property, you can build and make money.

3. Players may build only on their turn and can build just 1 house per property per turn. This slows the building down and allows the game to proceed at a more linear pace.

4. All players are guaranteed to be able to play the full 2 hours. You cannot get knocked out of the game- you can borrow from the bank as often as necessary to pay rents/bills if you have insufficient cash. We don’t want people driving to the event only to go bankrupt after an hour. You get to play the full 2 hours per game.

There are a few other minor rules variations but essentially it’s regular Monopoly from that point on.

We play for a set time (120 minutes) and when the time is up, the richest player wins.

Note: players can sign up for just game 1, just game 2 or both. You will be asked to specify when you RSVP "yes".

Location: The “new” Publix located at 170 Village Commons Dr, St. Augustine, FL 32092. This is NOT the Murabella Publix; this is the new one near the car wash on IGP
