Games Gateway Info: Launches - Looking for Volunteers

From: limor s.
Sent on: Wednesday, August 24, 2011 9:49 AM Launches! is pleased to announce its launch its first indoor/outdoor game play day.  Based on the concept of the popular New York based “Come Out and Play” program, is about immersing players in a game experience that moves people beyond the digital screen.  From completely analogue to fully digital and anywhere in between, this day of play is about getting people to interact with one another, their environment and the story you tell.

It all started when Nathan Maton, Dan Henry and Limor Schafman were at the Come Out and Play and Games for Change conferences in NYC.  We realized this is what DC needed, and here we are, looking for your help to make it happen.

We are looking for people who want to join us in making this happen.  There is lots of work that needs to be done including game solicitation distribution, fundraising (both money and in-kind), marketing materials development and outreach, game selection from the solicitation, day of set-up, volunteers for game play day, and more.  Whatever you are interested in doing - tell us!  We want to hear from you!

The 1st Festival will take place the final day of Digital Capital Week on Friday, November 11th, 2011, from 11am-7pm.  It will take place at Artisphere in Rosslyn.

Our schedule is as follows:

  1. Release of the game solicitation on September 12th.   We will need help getting the word out about the solicitation to as broad an audience as possible.
  2. Game proposals due by October 5th.
  3. Review of proposed games with determination and notification of final choices by October 12th.
  4. During the two months of steps 1-4, other jobs for production of the event will be happening simultaneously such as fundraising and marketing, and the on-going determination, planning and execution of production logistics.
