Are you a female founder or interested in gender bias? Are you making preparations for your next pitch (as a solo entrepreneur or in a team)? Do you know how to navigate around unconscious biases at the pitch AND in the Q&A session to avoid missing out on funding?

Impact Hub Stockholm and Team Odds Busters welcomes you – female founders, gamers, professionals and curious supporters – to be part of the playtest of the new roleplaying game – ”Play big, win bigger”. How is this part of the gamification group well the connection is An Coppens, who was on the original founder team of this meetup group and she is part of team Odds Busters formed at the Stockholm Techfest Hackaton last September - where we won the Stockholm Invest Challenge with this game idea and we are now bringing it to reality with a playtest.

As an attendee of this event, you will be invited to engage in a fun playtest and coaching dialogue workshop, set forth by the evening’s featured team of entrepreneurs. After joining this event, you should gain new knowledge about how to identify unconscious bias and - most importantly - you can start to practice on when and how to turn this to your advantage.
What happens when entrepreneurs learn the skills needed to navigate a flawed system in a fun way that promotes positive change? How might this change the ecosystem of startups?

Some background about the game and about Team Odds Busters: Odds Busters is the team of entrepreneurs bringing you this event and the team behind the game ”Play big, win bigger”:

The Problem:
Female entrepreneurs only receive around two percent of venture funding. Studies show that both male and female investors, when evaluating start-ups, show gender bias against female entrepreneurs, particularly in question-and-answer settings. Investors tend to ask male entrepreneurs promotion-style questions, setting them up for an answer that displays aspiration and confidence, while female entrepreneurs tend to get asked prevention-style questions, which sets them up to answer in a more defensive and risk-based manner.

The Solution:
Studies performed by Kanze et al. have found that, if an entrepreneur is able to identify a prevention-style question and deliberately shift the focus by answering in a promotion style, they are likely to raise significantly more funding when seeking investment. More generally, awareness needs to be raised surrounding the fact that investors have a responsibility to balance the promotion verses prevention style questioning, to more effectively screen entrepreneurs seeking investment.

Team Odds Buster's will serve to highlight inherent bias alongside the more general pitfalls of entrepreneurship and business and to train players to control pitch scenarios in a way that best reflects their business. They developed the game "Play big, win bigger" - a fun and accessible game that creates bias awareness in the investment world. The game will primarily focus on raising awareness of gender bias explored by the work of Dana Kanze, Laura Huang, Mark A. Conley and E. Tory Higgins, with a secondary purpose of highlighting general good practice as an entrepreneur when seeking investment. Players should be better prepared for pitch scenarios after playing this game.
