Robert shares his thoughts about the recital's selections here:
I am looking forward to sharing these pieces which I have been exploring over the past couple of years. The program begins and ends with Bach since he paved the way for Ysaye’s inspiration, and all four works draw attention to the varieties of stylistic possibility on the violin. For the Bach I will play on a baroque bow, more similar to what musicians were using during his life, and on Ysaye a modern bow. Bach based the sonatas off of the music of the church, while the partitas have their origins in popular French and Italian social dances. Ysaye wrote his fourth sonata to Austrian-American Fritz Kreisler, and the “Ballade” to Romanian virtuoso Gerge Enescu, representing two wildly different musical personalities and world views. The breadth is astounding, and I hope you will join us to celebrate the work of these great masters.
The program will be repeated Saturday, January 4 at 6:15 PM at the Midwest Young Artists Center at Fort Sheridan, 878 Lyster Road, in Highwood, IL. Therer is no charge for the performance, but for this location, they are asking that people RSVP in advance. You can do so by clicking here.
