Welcome to "Read Between the Wines!" If you are new to our group, we choose a "topic" rather than a specific book. For the month of April, our topic is "Writers of Appalachia." We are excited to have a personal friend joining us. She has been a researcher for the author, Sharyn McCrumb! She will be here to give insight on all things Appalachia.

About our topic: The area of "Appalachia" includes 423 counties across 13 US states. Many of us have lived or attended school in this region. I may be generalizing here, but my take on writers from Appalachia is that they often write about their cultural heritage with a very strong "sense of place."

Here are a few writers to consider: Lee Smith, Rick Bragg, Charles Frazier, Sharyn McCrumb, Robert Morgan, and Gaston County native, Wiley Cash. And my personal favorite writer, Silas House, from Kentucky.

Don't forget to check out the event photo! For the month of March, we read books that had "weather" words in the title. Boy, did we read some great books.

We will keep our cap on attendance at 10...but there will be flexibility for this special evening. We may even decide to have a potluck beforehand. Watch this space!
