Easy-Going Beginner Kayak Meetup at UW Waterfront

Come paddle with us on the calm, protected waters of Union Bay! This is a relaxed, beginner-friendly kayaking meetup — no experience necessary. Whether you've never held a paddle or just want a low-key day on the water, you're welcome here.
We'll meet at the UW Waterfront Activities Center, which has easy kayak rentals right on site. The water here is sheltered and flat, making it one of the best spots in Seattle to learn the basics and get comfortable. You'll have plenty of calm shoreline to practice before exploring the bay, the lily pads, and the newly reopened Arboretum waterways.

🛶 Rental prices (per hour):

• Single kayak: $25 public / $19 UW student / $22 UW employee
• Double kayak: $29 public / $21 UW student / $24 UW employee

Life jackets and paddles are included with every rental, and no reservations are required. A few good-to-knows: prices don't include sales tax, payment is by credit card only (no cash), and single kayaks are for solo paddlers 18+ with a photo ID — so bring your ID! Parking is free after noon on Saturdays and all day Sundays/holidays, and the light rail stops right by Husky Stadium next to the WAC.
🌤️ Note that rentals are weather-dependent, so if it's looking especially windy or stormy, keep an eye out for updates.
🥪 Afterward: We'll head out together for a casual lunch nearby to swap stories and get to know each other — totally optional, but a great way to wrap up the day.
