On 17 May 2026, Thirlmere village will once again awaken to the enchanting sound of the steam whistle for the annual Thirlmere Festival of Steam.
Enjoy an incredible weekend out and experience the magic of steam with heritage train rides, vintage steam machinery, live entertainment, carnival rides, a street parade and more.
Entry to the festival is FREE! Come and enjoy live entertainment, see steam machines in action, and watch steam trains depart right from Thirlmere Station.

Want to really experience the magic of steam? There's even more to see and do with a ticket to enter the NSW Rail Museum, where you can jump on a steam train ride. Or enjoy carnival rides for the whole family at the Festival of Steam Family Carnival!
