Annie’s Canyon is a very cool canyon that you won’t believe is in San Diego. The canyon is a “slot” canyon. Meaning the trail goes thru a very narrow canyon. Steep sandstone walls on both sides. And at the end of the slot canyon is a ladder to climb out. The canyon is about 1/10 of a mile! The trail inside the canyon is uneven. Some steps. Some of the steps are high, like 2.5 feet high. (We will all be there to help each other). The ladder out is about 40 feet high. It’s a great little canyon, and you will be glad you did it. But you need to be reasonably healthy, not bothered by tight spaces and sure on your feet to do this one.

We will park at the trail head! It’s a nice 22 minute walk along San Elijo Lagoon to the Canyon. The path over is fairly level. Trail offers nice views of the lagoon. No restrooms. Pets not allowed inside the Canyon. Good idea to have sunscreen and water.

No picnic tables or restaurants are close to the trailhead, so no lunch on this adventure.

If you want to come on the walk, and not do the canyon portion, that’s not a problem. The entrance and exit for the canyon are the same location.

Hope to see many of you on this one. It’s the walk that you will bring your out of town friends back to experience!
