Queer Ancestors: Healers and Shamans
Details
What role did queer people play in their tribe in the past? In this talk Rafael shares what he has learnt as he has explored the history of his lineage as a shaman born in Argentina and trained in the traditions of the Wirachocha tradition of healers.
His explorations of the history of his lineage has revealed that in pre colonial South America gay men were often central in the role of Shamans and in this Zoom conversation he will share his learning with you to give a fuller picture of how ancient societies valued the gifts gay men brought to the tribe, seeing us as healers and a gift to the tribe rather than something to condemn.
Rafael is descended from the Aymara people who have been living in the Andes for more than 5.000 years and their legacy to the world has been passed on only in some parts of South America. He offers authentic and exclusive Aymaric ceremonies dedicated to Tata inti (father sun) and Pachamama (Mother Earth) that go back over 4,000 years.
In this talk you'll have a chance to glimpse into the forgotten history of queer healers and shamans and hear from a gay man who is continuing these traditions after being trained by his family to pass these teachings on.
