Full Moonrise over Boston (August 2023)
Details
Let's go shoot the full moon rise behind the Boston city skyline! This is the first of two supermoons in August 2023.
NOTE: this is highly dependent on cloud conditions, so watch the comments for details! I may cancel the event if the weather is not clear enough.
This will be a full super moon rising above the Boston skyline during blue hour. The featured photo is the full moon streak from a nearby location in June 2022, but the alignment is similar with the moon crossing the new State Street building at around 8:43pm.
See the location and "How to find us" section for relevant details.
Composition/Shooting:
You can attempt a range of various shots: single shots of the moon over the skyline, single shots of just the moon, or a moon streak (see Jurgen's blog post for more info: https://jmlobert.blogspot.com/2017/07/how-to-create-moon-streak-that-is-not.html). The moon should be visible right at moonrise at 8:38pm.
Suggested equipment:
Zoom lenses of 200mm or greater to capture the telephoto views of the city/moon. 400mm+ is better, as the city is about 7 miles away. Also, bring bug repellent if you're a mosquito magnet like me.
After:
You can continue to shoot the moon and the city during and after blue hour and as night falls.
