The Bunker Hill Monument Illuminated & The Charlestown Neighborhood

Details

The Bunker Hill Monument is going to be illuminated from now until July 4th in honor of the upcoming 250th anniversary of the American revolution. The National Park Service will illuminate the pyramidion of Bunker Hill monument to reveal likenesses of the 2 flags that flew from the Monuyment at its grand opening in 1843. The monument is challenging to shoot, as it will be brightly illuminated. You might want to try bracketing your shots and creating an HDR image in post-processing.

The surrounding Charlestown neighborhood has some old brick buildings and several unique views, including shooting down Monument Avenue or Pleasant Street to include the Zakim bridge and part of Boston's skyline. Depending on time, we may also want to walk over to the Zakim Bridge.

Parking is limited but it is suggested that you park at the Bunker Hill Mall on Austin Street. From there, it's a short 3-block walk to the meeting location at the intersection of Warren St and Monument Ave.

Sunset is at 7:56 and there is a 97% moon rising at 6:16pm. Dress for the weather, watch the comments for updates.

Suggested equipment: from very wide lenses to shoot straight up the monument, to long zooms to shoot down Monument Ave.
