🌟 Ren'Py: The Beginner-Friendly Android Dev Tool You Didn't Know Existed! 🌟

While Kotlin and Jetpack Compose are excellent for Android developers, they're not beginner-friendly. Flutter and React Native offer alternatives but still aren't beginner-friendly either. Enter Ren'Py, a Python-based game engine for creating visual novels. It's beginner-friendly, surprisingly powerful, and just plain fun to program with. Paired with Android Studio, it creates native Android apps.

🎤 About Joey deVilla,

Joey got his professional start developing multimedia CD-ROMs when they were a thing, build desktop applications including an encyclopedia of every mall in America and fitness tracking software for the Toronto Maple Leafs, and has since gone on to write applications for mobile and IoT devices.

He enjoys talking to people as much as he enjoys talking to computers, and that combination has landed him roles as a developer advocate at places you’ve never heard of, to places like Tucows, Microsoft, and Shopify. He’s now a developer advocate at Okta, where his focus is on mobile and Python developers.

As for the accordion playing, that’s an accidental hobby that involves a sunny May Day, an invitation to a protest, a challenge at a goth bar, Nine Inch Nails, and a lot of beer. Since then, he’s gone on to play accordion with bands, on MTV Canada, at conferences, and more than a few meetups. He plays rock and pop tunes on the accordion, preferring to leave polka to the experts.
