What's Hacktoberfest?

Hacktoberfest—brought to you by DigitalOcean and GitHub—is a month-long celebration of open source software. Maintainers are invited to guide would-be contributors towards issues that will help move the project forward, and contributors get the opportunity to give back to both projects they like, and ones they've just discovered. No contribution is too small—bug fixes and documentation updates are valid ways of participating.

Can't make it to this event? Hacktoberfest is virtual and open to participants from around the globe. Sign up to participate today (https://hacktoberfest.digitalocean.com/).

About Our Event.

The goal of our hackathon is to help connect people who are new to contributing to an Open Source project and may not familiar with the process or may have their doubts about the process come together with those that are more experienced and get the help or guidance that they need to get their first of four pull requests knocked out and well on the way to completing the remaining three pull requests.

Rules and Prizes

First sign up on the Hacktoberfest site. If you open up four pull requests between October 1 and October 31, you'll win a free, limited edition Hacktoberfest T-shirt. (Pull requests do not have to be merged and accepted; as long as they've been opened between the very start of October 1 and the very end of October 31, they count towards a free T-shirt.)

Connect with other Hacktoberfest participants (Hacktobefestants?) by using the hashtag, #Hacktoberfest, on your social media platform of choice.

New to DigitalOcean? Receive USD $10 in infrastructure credit at https://do.co/hacktoberfest17 .

Things to do before the event

• Make sure that you are registered for the Hackathon on DigitalOcean's Site at https://hacktoberfest.digitalocean.com/sign_up/register this will help DigitalOcean track your progress throughout the event.

• If you don't already know of a project you would like to make a contribution to feel free to look through the vetted list of issues available at https://github.com/search?q=label:hacktoberfest+state:open+type:issue to see if any sounds interesting to you. At the end of the day any pull request to any repository counts.
