With the release of Android 17 (API 37), the era of "locking" your UI is coming to an end. The platform is removing the developer opt-out for orientation and resizability restrictions on large screens, making adaptive layouts a requirement rather than a choice.

How do you transition a legacy codebase to a world of fluid windowing? In this session, we will dive into the technical solutions for supporting landscape, portrait, and multi-window environments. We’ll cover how to handle configuration changes gracefully, leverage WindowSizeClasses, and ensure your app remains functional and beautiful across the entire Android ecosystem.

I’m a PhD student in Computer Science, specializing in privacy-preserving biometrics and secure AI. My research focuses on deepfake prevention and biometric security, tackling the growing challenges of identity fraud and AI-driven misinformation. Like any researcher, I’ve faced my share of setbacks—broken models, unpredictable results, and the constant search for better solutions. Every failure has been a stepping stone, pushing me to refine my approach and think more critically.

Beyond research, I’m deeply involved in the tech community through GDG Kansas City and as a Google Women Techmakers Ambassador. I’ve had the opportunity to present my work internationally, engaging in discussions that shape the future of AI ethics and privacy.

I’m here to share what I’ve learned—whether it’s navigating research challenges, building privacy-focused AI systems, or simply making sense of the ever-evolving world of technology. If I can help make someone’s journey a little easier, then it’s all worth it.
