What we're about
Upcoming events (5+)
David Stück, Staff Data Engineer at Evidation Health, will be hosting an interactive talk on analyzing data using PySpark. We’ll go through some basics of how Spark works and walk through an example data investigation using local PySpark. Instructions on setting up a virtualenv with pyspark and Jupyter notebooks that we’ll go through during the talk are available at https://github.com/dstuck/pyspark-analytics-workshop. Participation is encouraged - bring your laptop and be ready to learn about the power of PySpark in big data analytics! (make sure your laptop is fully charged as no outlets are available) GDG New Orleans is a monthly meeting where developers can present on any topic related to technology and software development. Got a talk idea? Contact one of the organizers!
Every second Tuesday, come hang out with us at Hack Night! This is a casual, social meetup with no agenda. Come hang out with other people in tech. Everyone is welcome! If you ever have a technical problem, you're welcome to bring your laptop and ask for help. Mention it in the Nola Dev's Slack beforehand to get more attention. We start at 6:00 pm, earlier than Hack Night, so you have an opportunity to take advantage of happy hour which ends at 7:00 pm. Code of Conduct When you join our events, you’re joining a community. And like any growing community, a few ground rules about expected behavior are good for everyone. All participants (organizers, attendees, sponsors, venue, etc.) must follow our Code of Conduct which can be found here: https://github.com/GDG-NewOrleans/code_of_conduct

#IamRemarkable is a Google initiative empowering women and underrepresented groups to speak openly about their accomplishments in the workplace and beyond, thereby breaking modesty norms and glass ceilings. Learn more at g.co/IamRemarkable. In this interactive session, you will participate in group discussions and exercises to develop the confidence and skills to promote yourself effectively. While the content is focused on women and underrepresented groups, people of all genders and backgrounds are encouraged to attend. Anyone who feels "other" in any way can benefit from this workshop. Also, it's important for others not in these groups to become more aware of the issues affecting them. Space is limited, so please do not RSVP "yes" if you cannot attend.
