Google Women Techmakers Tallinn: Bias and AI

Details
Artificial intelligence and machine learning rely on large datasets in order to be able to work. But relying on information and decisions made by prejudiced humans, the machines will not only learn the same prejudices but also start applying them.
Deep learning algorithms find patterns in data and then start applying those, leading to bias and prejudice in hiring, retail, criminal justice system. How and why does this happen, how to counteract it and
how it will affect our lives (as women) in the future?
We will hear from Kristin Ehala, Data Scientist at Sifr.ai, on all things technical to kick the programme off. Ott Velsberg, Estonia’s Chief Data Officer, will then give his take on things and introduce for the first time in public Estonia’s guidelines for AI and ML. We will then have a panel discussion, led by Taavi Tammiste, on the ethics of eradicating bias and how to technically achieve this. Taavi will be joined by Triin Mahlakõiv from North Star AI and Markus Lippus from Mindtitan as well as other guests.
