With the gaining popularity of dbt across the data industry, it is now a great time to explore where it stands today, the value it brings, whether it is worth all the hype, or if it is doing more harm than good. Despite the availability of dbt-cloud, most dbt projects self-host it on a preferred public cloud platform.

Given Google Cloud has Dataform as an equivalent, it begs the question of whether dbt has a sizable value proposition or is it redundant, or whether there is a place for it somewhere in between. This is going to be an open-ended topic and will warrant open-mindedness too :-)
