Enchantments 101: Larches, Routes & Why This Hike Is Such a Big Deal

What makes the Enchantments one of Washington’s most talked-about hiking destinations and why is hiking through it such a challenge?

Join us at Gearhouse for an informal presentation night all about the Enchantments and larch season. We’ll break down what makes this landscape so unique, what the different hiking routes look like, what to expect on the trail, and why the famous Enchantments thru-hike earns its reputation.

We’ll cover things like the area’s history and landscape, permits and access, the main hiking routes, mileage and elevation, terrain, weather, preparation, and some of the most common questions people have before visiting.

And because fall is coming, we’ll spend part of the night talking about larches: what they are, when they typically change color, and other hikes and areas around Leavenworth and Central Washington where you can experience them without necessarily taking on the full Enchantments traverse.
