Geeks OUT Writers Workshop

Details

Calling all writers! The LAQG Writers Workshop is back in session with Geeks OUT! For those of you not familiar, Los Angeles Queer Geeks was previously hosting a monthly writer’s workshop. After a long hiatus and our merge with GeeksOUT, we are finally starting back up again! Sorry for the long break, everyone!

The workshop will remain the same as before, being held once a month on Sunday afternoons at Grand Park in Downtown LA (weather permitting). If there is an event going on at Grand Park, the location will change to somewhere a bit quieter so please check for updates!

Quick breakdown of what the workshop is: it is a safe space for writers of all genres and all skill levels to come together and share their writing or just to get some advice from fellow writers. Whether you are a professional writer, journalist, fanfic writer, blogger, poet, screen or play writer. Or even if you’ve never written before but just starting out, you are more than welcome. This will be a creative space for all to share ideas and inspirations. We welcome positive critiquing and encouragement and want to allow other writers to grow and get their creative juices flowing. Want to figure out how to get past writer’s block? Need some tips on world creating or character development? Come to our workshop and get some great tips or advice. Or if you just love listening to others’ works and just want to be a spectator, that’s great, too! Poetry, prose, comedy, tragedy, we welcome all!

We also offer prompts to help encourage each other to write that we can then read at our next workshop. Think of it as homework, but a lot more fun. 😉 Our next prompt is based on the story dice pictured. You can use all or some of the dice to come up with a story, a poem, an article, whatever you want! The pictures can be interpreted in any way you’d like. Writing can be, after all, very subjective. Seeing Halloween is just around the corner, perhaps a spooky story? Or you could choose to ignore the dice completely and just bring whatever other piece you may be working on that you’d like some feedback with. It’s all up to you!

So get your pens and papers (or laptops, tablets, or phones) ready and join us as Geeks OUT hosts their writers workshop event. To any previous attendants, welcome back! And to our newer members, welcome aboard!
