Now though, the autumn colors are drawing riders north into the Pocono regions, near Jim Thorpe - such beauty. And finishing up our Fall Foliage Weekend 4 with a ride on Switchback Railroad Trail (http://www.traillink.com/trail/switchback-railroad-trail.aspx), in beautiful Jim Thorpe. The Switchback Trail is the most historic among the trails in Pennsylvania's Rails-to-Trails (http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/dcnr/deputate/pksfor/stpks/r2thome.htm) Conservancy. It traces the route of the historic Switchback Gravity Railroad (http://www.switchbackgravityrr.org/indexUC.html), an 18-mile round-trip through countryside once called "The Switzerland of America." It offers enjoyable outings for walkers, hikers, and mountain bikers (http://webcommerce.com/mitchm/chesco/). The level of technical skill and physical skill required is intermediate, since the trail is coarse, rocky, and bumpy. Mountain bikes or bicycles with a suspension are required.

DIRECTIONS: Once in Jim Thorpe, take Hill Road to the top (approximately 1/4 mile) where parking is located on the left.

The Genesis snack break will take place on the trail - we're in sticks now!

Be ready to take lots of pictures to remember this ride - the scenes are gorgeous!

Bring a spare tube for your bike and a helmet. Our trail pace at 12-14 mph will be challenging enough to feel that you've been on a bike trip (2-3 hrs), yet interesting, as the terrain changes and abundant wildlife are seen.

Feel free to bring your own foods and drinks during the ride. Also, while mostly shaded trails, bring sunscreen, water, and insect repellant. Not recommended for children under 12.

If you are participating for the first time in a Genesis ride, please arrive 30-mins before departure to review and sign a waiver.

Jim Fullerton, Genesis Ambassador, is a League Cycling Instructor #3707, League of American Bicyclists, and will be riding a Trek 4500 Disc MTB.
