This weekend we are going to do a winter hike to La Dôle, one of the highest peaks in the Jura overlooking Lake Geneva. This is a moderately demanding winter hike with steady elevation gain. The terrain is not technical but snow conditions can make it more challenging.

At the moment snow conditions in the Jura appear to be mixed, with sections of packed snow, icy trails, and possibly areas with little or no snow depending on exposure.
For this reason participants must bring both snowshoes and crampons. It is possible we will use one, the other, or both depending on the conditions we encounter.

Important: you must be able to comfortably carry your snowshoes attached to your backpack when they are not needed. Make sure your backpack allows you to secure them properly for several hours of hiking.

🏔️ HIKE DETAILS:

We will start from St-Cergue train station at 10:00 and walk on the route du telesiege before we start going up at a steady pace to La Dôle. We will descend taking the same route with a deviation via La Barillete and will be back at around 16:30. There is no covered place where we can make a stop for lunch so we will have our picnic outdoors.

The route will take us through forests and open ridge terrain before reaching the summit, which offers wide views over the Alps, Mont Blanc, and Lake Geneva. The weather will be quite clear so we will have nice views.

Starting time: 9:33
Duration: 6:30 hours (including breaks for snacks and lunch)
Length: 15.19km
Elevation gain: 779m ascent / 779m descent
