Mary invites you to join her on this beautiful coastal walk. You'll start off from Aberlady - walk down to the sea, cross the picturesque wooden footbridge at Aberlady Bay, through the Nature Reserve and on to Gullane where weโll have a wee refreshment in one of the many cafes/bars before returning home again.
* ABERLADY BAY NATURE RESERVE: a beautiful local nature reserve (the first in Britain when declared in 1952) Renowned especially as a bird-watching venue. The total area of the reserve is 582 hectares or 1,439 acres ( mostly sand, mudflats and salt marsh). It's an area of feeding wildfowl and waders, breeding birds and 550 species of plant life have been identified here. There is also a herd of roe deer.
* GULLANE POINT: spectacular views over Gullane Bay and the Firth of Forth.
* GULLANE: best known for its golf courses, however it also boasts a magnificent sandy beach, numerous shops, pubs, restaurants etc
GETTING TO ABERLADY
๐BUS: 124 (East Coast Buses) Leaves from Apple Store, Princes Street at 10:46 and arrives Aberlady (Opposite Community Hall) at 11:48
๐CAR: There is street parking in Aberlady.
RETURNING TO EDINBURGH
๐BUS: 124 or X5 (East Coast Buses) run regularly from Gullane (2 per hour) https://www.travelinescotland.com
๐CAR: The above buses will take you back to your car.
EXTRAS
Attire: Dress to suit the weather and wear comfy walking boots/shoes
Break: Bring a snack and we'll have a picnic on the beach
Distance: Approx 5 miles
Dogs: Unfortunately dogs are not allowed within the nature reserve.
