*SUNDAY* 🧙🏼WIZARD'S WALK🧙🏼 KIRKCALDY: COASTAL, PROMENADE & CASTLE
Details
Jim would like you to join him on this 'Wizard's Walk'. Starting from the Morrisons Supermarket, Kirkcaldy. You'll visit popular Beveridge Park, you'll walk through mixed woodland and down to Raith Lake. Most of the paths have a gravel surface. You'll also walk on the Promenade, view the Harbour, Raith Lake and may walk on to Ravenscraig Castle.
BEVERIDGE PARK: dates back to 1892, when Provost Michael Beveridge bequeathed 104 acres of Raith Estate to the people of Kirkcaldy. It has many pleasant features including, woodland walks, formal rose and flower gardens, play facilities, sporting facilities and a boating pond.
WIZARDS WALK: Legend has it that Sir Michael Scott “ the Wizzard of Balwearie” lived at Balwearie Castle, in the 13th century, the ruins of which will be seen during the walk. He studied medicine and alchemy earning the name Micheal Mathematics, was advisor to Holy Emperor Frederick 11 and famous throughout Europe. His fascination with alchemy, astrology and the occult gained him the reputation on his return to Scotland as a great Wizzard
RAITH LAKE: Very close to the end of the Wizard’s Walk (on the other side of the B925 road) is Raith Lake which is part of the Raith Estate.
RAVENSCRAIG CASTLE: is an unexpectedly substantial clifftop ruin, hidden by modern housing developments on the landward side and open to the elements on the seaward edge. It was built by James II in the 1450s for his wife, Queen Mary of Gueldres, but both died before it was completed. James III soon passed the unfinished property to the Sinclair family, with their rough Highland connections showing through in the starkly defensive walls: 3.5 metres thick in some places.
