The magic of Colinton Dell - circular walk

Details

Off the beaten track between Colinton and Slateford lies one of Edinburgh's real hidden gems: Colinton Dell.
This circular walk will follow a disused railway line (now a well-maintained path) through the scenic and magical Colinton Dell: passing by weirs, ruins and through an atmospheric (and disused!) railway tunnel.
The walk will begin outside the Post Office in Colinton Village. From there, we will walk through Colinton Dell, passing through the railway tunnel and reaching the Union Canal aqueduct at Slateford. There, we will descend where there are toilets and we will have a 15 min break at the Water of Leith Visitor Centre and there are public toilets in Colinton at the start and end of the walk.
On the way back, we'll follow the Water of Leith walkway on the other side of the Dell, enjoying the nature, scenery and history along the way. We'll finish back in Colinton village at the Colinton Inn, where there is ample opportunity for a bite to eat or a well-earned refreshment! Frequent buses run from Colinton to the city centre.
The approximate length of this jaunt is 4 miles. This is a dog-friendly walk, and dogs are allowed in Colinton Inn.
Please note that all walks are organised and run by volunteers with no liability insurance, that by attending one of these walks you do so at your own risk.
