MIDDAY/MIDWEEK: LONGNIDDRY TO THE BEAUTIFUL GROUNDS OF GOSFORD ESTATE

Mary invites you to join her on a gorgeous woodland walk around the stunning grounds of the historically interesting Gosford House. You'll meet at Longniddry Station and walk to Gosford Country Park where there are beautiful woodland paths, lily ponds, interesting buildings and of course the imposing grandeur of Gosford House itself. If anyone fancies a coffee/refreshment afterwards the Craigielaw Golf Club is very near the return bus stop. It has a bar for drinks, snacks, tea, coffee and home-baking - and also a Courtyard where you can eat/drink al-fresco should the sun be shining 🌞

• GOSFORD ESTATE: is the seat of the Earls of Wemyss and March and is set in 5,000 acres of combined coast and parkland. It's current owner is James Donald Charteris, 13th Earl of Wemyss and 9th Earl of March (also known as Jamie Neidpath) shares his time living between Gosford House and his other home, the Jacobean Stanway House, a Manor House near the village of Stanway in Gloucestershire.
• GOSFORD HOUSE: designed by the celebrated architect Robert Adam and built for the 7th Earl between 1790 and 1800, only finally being completed 8 years after Adam’s death.
• MAUSOLEUM: 18th Century building where the 7th Earl of Wemyss, Francis Charteris, (1723-1808) is buried
• ICE HOUSE: designed to blend in with the landscape
• LARGE ORNAMENTAL PONDS
• BOAT HOUSE
• CURLING HOUSE - built from Tufa rock

GETTING TO THE START POINT
🚌BUS: X5 (East Coast buses) leaves from Waterloo Place (Stop ZK) - at 10:24 - arrives Longniddry Station at 11:02
🚂TRAIN: Leaves Edinburgh Waverley at 10:40 - arrives Longniddry at 11:01
🚙CAR: Parking is available at Longniddry Station.
