Mary invites you to join her on this lovely coastal walk from Dirleton to North Berwick.
You'll set off from outside the Open Arms Hotel and walk down the John Muir Path to the sea, where you'll have wonderful panoramic views of the islands that dot the Firth of Forth as you walk along the golden sands of Yellowcraigs beach and alongside North Berwick Golf Course.
Lastly you'll reach The Seabird Centre at North Berwick before heading back to Edinburgh.
* DIRLETON: picturesque village with it's imposing late 13th century castle taking centre stage opposite a quaint village green. (Within the castle grounds is the world’s largest herbaceous border and beautifully planted gardens - developed in the 19th century).
* YELLOWCRAIGS BEACH: sometimes referred to as Broad Sands Bay, is a sandy beach surrounded by forest and grassland. It is most famously known as the inspiration for Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island.
* FIDRA ISLAND: The island is an RSPB Scotland nature reserve.
* FIDRA LIGHTHOUSE: dates from 1885 and was the first to be automated in Scotland in 1970.
* CRAIGLEITH ISLAND: historically used as a rabbit warren. The rabbits were bred for food but were wiped out by myxomatosis in the 1950s.
* SCOTTISH SEABIRD CENTRE: a 5 star visitor attraction who's showpiece is the interactive live cameras out to the wildlife on the Firth of Forth islands, including Bass Rock, Isle of May, Fidra and Craigleith.
