Torchlight Procession 2025 Edinburgh

Hi Everyone ...I am really looking forward to seeing you all at this event. Following is our schedule for the event . You can join or leave the group at any stage but please let me know if you are going to go to Doctors as I have booked a table in my name.

OUR SCHEDULE FOR EVENT
14:00 Torch collection opens . I will be collecting my torch at 3pm ....please do not leave it too late to get your torch as there are thousands of people taking part in this event.

15:30 Drinks and /or meal at DOCTORS 32 Forrest Road.

18:00 Meet at the top oF Meadow Walk (across the road from Doctors) to go into the Meadows to watch the pre-procession entertainment that starts at 18:30. As a group, we will join the procession queue when requested to do so by the officials.

19:30 Procession starts
The procession terminates beneath the castle on Castle Terrace. After returning our torches, we will make our way to Ryan's Bar ( 2-4 Hope Street).

Experience the start of global New Year celebrations, steeped in Scottish tradition. Enjoy a carnival atmosphere overflowing with Street Theatre, Fire Performers and Drummers, before the Massed Pipes & Drums and Vikings from Shetland’s South Mainland Up Helly Aa’ Jarl Squad (SMUHA) lead the procession through the capital’s historic Old Town.
The Torchlight Procession paints the streets with flickering flames, winding through the city like a river of light. The streets come alive with live music, street performers, and that unmistakable Edinburgh energy.

The are 3 ways of enjoying this event ...
1. As a torch bearer participant in the procession.
2. As a participant in the procession without a torch.
3. Watch the procession from a point of your choice somewhere along the way the route.

14:00 – Torch Collection opens
18:30 – Pre-Entertainment begins at The Meadows
19:30 – Procession begins / approx. 45min route
21:00 – Event finishes

Accessibility. This event takes place in the City Centre, where most surfaces are standard roads, cobbled streets or public paths. Please note the Torchlight Procession is an all-standing event with no seating areas available, and it can become very busy. The route is approximately 1.5km long.

• One torch required per four people; additional torches/wristbands are needed for each group member. Please note you will need to purchase at least one torch per four people. One torch between 2 people is recommended

Thousands of torch carriers will lead the way up Middle Meadow Walk, crossing George IV Bridge and making their way along Johnston Terrace before reaching a picturesque finishing point on Castle Terrace beneath Edinburgh Castle.
