Thursday Walk / Almondvale to Broxburn via Union Canal Feeder and Aqueduct.

THIS IS A LINEAR WALK AND ALTHOUGH PARKING IS AVAILABLE AT THE START POINT THE WALK DOES NOT RETURN TO THE START POINT.
The start point will be the gates entrance to Almondvale Country Park in East Calder as shown above. (Bus stops are approx 100 yards from Gates shown.)
If coming from Edinburgh the x 27 from Princess Street or Exchange at Lothian Road opposite the Caley Picture House.
Alternatively if coming from a western location then the x27 runs from Bathgate through Livingston going in the opposite direction.
As can be seen on the map the Almondvale Park South car Park is adjacent to the gates and is free.
We will enter at the gates shown, walking downhill to the Visitor Centre (Toilets available.)
From the Visitor centre we will traverse the Suspension Bridge and then follow the Union Canal top up feeder to the junction of Union Canal and River Almond where there are benches for a short rest/ lunch break. There are a few sets of stiles on this path and it can be muddy in wet weather.
At the junction of Almond and Union Canal there are 2 sets of steps to negotiate to get to the North bank of the Union Canal.
After these steps it is then a level canal walk to the Buchan Basin mooring for canal boats at Broxburn.
Bus x18 runs here returning to Edinburgh via Newbridge, Corstorphine.
The overall distance is circa 6 miles +, made up of 1.5 / 2 to Visitor Centre, 2 to Union canal, 2.5 to Broxburn.
