Iconic Tangerine Falls by Scenic Cold Spring Creek
Cold Spring Trailhead, 811 E Mountain Drive,, Montecito, CA, USThe recent rains offer an opportunity to experience something more distinctively fun and less mundane. Cold Spring Creek In Montecito would be flowing and exciting. We will do this hike by rock hopping, cliff wall climbing, or wading, or a combination. From the trailhead off E Mountain Dr, the creek leads upstream to the beautiful and iconic Tangerine Falls.
I intend to explore this beautiful place at a relaxing pace, take lunch and enjoy the views below Tangerine Falls. After that ascend a steep hillside to the boulder overlook and rock pool above Tangerine Falls.
To get a sense of the adventure, check out this documentary video from my last hike there.

Santa Barbara 5 Peaks: Arlington, Cathedral, LaCumbre, White, Flores
Inspiration Point Trailhead, Spyglass Ridge Road, Santa Barbara, CA, USDragon's Back Ridge, Arlington Peak, Cathedral Peak, La Cumbre Peak, White Mountain/ Rock Garden and Flores Peak, these are some of the most scenic and beautiful areas in Santa Barbara, or anywhere else. We would do this hike at a fun and safe pace, taking time to marvel at the beautiful scenery and views. Join me if you appreciate beautiful nature, enjoy a challenging hiking adventure, and are pleasant to socialize with.
If you could pull this hike off, it would be quite an accomplishment. Arlington Peak by itself is rated as hard by Alltrails. 3 Peaks Loop (Arlington, Cathedral & La Cumbre) is rated as strenuous. 5 Peaks is even more strenuous. Last year I did 5 Peaks twice, both times ascended from Dragon's Back Ridge. For this hike, I am taking the group to do the opposite direction, taking Tunnel Trail, then connect to Rattlesnake Canyon Trail, Gibraltar Rd, Flores Peak, Rock Garden Trail, White Mountain/ Rock Garden, Rocky Pine Ridge Trail, E Camino Cielo, La Cumbre Peak, then descend Cathedral Peak Trail, Cathedral Peak, Arlington Peak, down Dragon's Back. It is very likely we could descend from the mountain after sunset, therefore, reliable headlamp & layered clothing is necessary.
This hike is also set up to coincide with Santa Barbara Trails Council's 5 Peaks Challenge. More information:

Overnight Wilderness Journey to Topa Topa Bluff, Sisar Peak & White Ledge Camp
Stagecoach Junction Market, 12679 Santa Paula Ojai Road [CA 150], Ojai, CA, USRising sharply above the Ojai Valley, Topa Topa Bluff is one of Southern California’s most striking and iconic Matilija sandstone formations - visible from miles away, even as far south as Ventura. Its sheer presence feels like an invitation to explore what lies beyond the horizon.
This overnight adventure begins along the Sisar Canyon Trail, following in and out of the winding flow of Sisar Creek, where the sound of flowing water accompanies the hike deeper into the backcountry.
This time of the year should be quite ideal conditions: cool, crisp air, flowing creeks, and the spring wildflowers adding bursts of color to the canyons and ridgelines—a beautiful and pleasant time for the journey.
By late afternoon, we should arrive at White Ledge Camp, one of the most serene and distinctive campsites in the region. Tucked into a dense forest of towering sycamores and giant California bay trees—the largest I’ve ever encountered—the camp feels like a hidden sanctuary. Pristine Sisar Creek borders the eastern edge of the site, providing a constant calming presence. As night falls, a crackling campfire and a simple back country dinner turn the forest into a cathedral of shadows, stars, and stillness.
Day two is mostly about elevation climb and exploration. From camp, the trail climbs toward Sisar Peak and onward to Topa Topa Bluff, where sweeping panoramic views reward the strenuous effort. From this lofty perch, the landscape opens wide—Ojai below, the Channel Islands on clear days, and endless ridges rolling toward the horizon. It’s the kind of place that makes the miles feel worthwhile and the solitude feel profound.
This trip isn’t just a hike—it’s a true wilderness life experience, blending rugged terrain, hidden camps, flowing water, and iconic summits into an unforgettable overnight adventure.

Matilija Wilderness Adventure
Ojai, 210 East Ojai Ave,, CA, USThis wild nature is one of the most beautiful, exciting and fascinating places I have ever been to. More beautiful than Santa Paula Punchbowls and all other trails in Ojai. More beautiful than Dragon's Back Ridge to Arlington, Tangerine Falls, and Seven Falls in Santa Barbara, yet also challenging - many miles of off trail wilderness bush and creek traverse, boulder hopping, boulder climbing, wading, uneven & rocky terrain, slippery surface, unstable shale rock wall climbing, ascending and descending very steep sharp boulder field.
I have been to this wilderness twice last year, and have been wanting to go back and explore further when the vibrant wild flowers in this unique wilderness are blooming again. I expect this trip to be another very beautiful and exciting experience of a lifetime.
To join, above all else, you must have proven expertise and adequate safety acumen in similar challenging wild environments. Plus practical wilderness knowledge and survival skills. Penalty for carelessness, mistake, inaccurate assessment, is serious injuries or permanent comatose.Liability Waiver
