Details

Join us for an exciting mountain adventure aboard the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, ascending from the valley floor into the spectacular alpine world of Mount San Jacinto!

The tramway itself is an engineering marvel, carrying us from the Valley Station at about 2,643 feet to the Mountain Station at 8,516 feet. As the tramcar climbs the steep mountainside, we'll watch the desert landscape unfold beneath us, revealing a remarkable transformation in elevation, climate, and scenery.

From the Mountain Station, we'll venture into the San Jacinto wilderness, exploring fragrant pine forests, rugged granite formations, and beautiful mountain trails. Our exploration will take us toward San Jacinto Peak, rising to 10,834 feet above sea level. Its rugged summit stands high above the surrounding landscape, offering sweeping views across Southern California's mountain ranges, valleys, and desert basins.

Hike details

  • Distance: 10.4 miles round trip
  • Elevation gain: approximately 2,560 feet
  • Difficulty: Hard
  • Planned return to Mountain Station: 6:00 PM, ahead of the tramway's scheduled 9:30 PM closing

Be prepared for mountain conditions! Temperatures can be much colder at elevation, and strong winds can make the summit feel especially cold. Bring warm layers, wind protection, adequate food and water.
