What we’re about
This is a meetup group for those in the DC area who like maps, GIS, OpenStreetMap, cartography and anything in between.
Started in July 2009, this group aims to keep the DC geo enthusiasts connected to each other for learning and socializing and probably some drinking.
You can follow us on twitter at @geodcmeetup.

RideFlow DC (part of DC public library AI Upskilling Lab with Levy) Talk: RideFlow DCThe DC Public Library and Levy launched an 8-week AI Upskilling Lab, where a cohort of former federal workers is applying decades of public service experience to solve local challenges using artificial intelligence.
Their project, RideFlow DC, is an AI-assisted platform addressing a critical gap in Washington DC’s transportation ecosystem. Since most DC households are car-free, commuters often struggle to coordinate between apps for optimal, multimodal routes (e.g., combining biking and Metro/bus). Existing tools also fail to prioritize protected bike lanes or provide bike parking information.
RideFlow DC will use real-time data from WMATA and DDOT to deliver intelligent routes that seamlessly combine biking with transit, prioritizing safety (using Vision Zero data) and adapting to delays and weather. This project demonstrates how geospatial AI can serve hyperlocal needs and foster future civic innovation. The team is seeking mentorship in GIS, routing algorithms, and transportation modeling.

Esri/Personal Project Talk: Washington DC Neighborhoods: a crowd-sourced mapping projectWe all have a mental map of our neighborhood informed by our favorite spots, memories, and local landmarks. Learn how you can contribute to a crowd-sources mapping project exploring how DC residents see their neighborhoods, where perceived boundaries align, and where they inevitably blur.
Here is a link to the map where you can contribute local details.
We will also give a quick recap of FOSS4G NA, the premiere open-source geospatial software and business conference in North America. The event is taking place the week prior on November 2-5 at the Hyatt Regency in Reston. There is still time to register for a workshop or the main conference, hope to see you there.
And a big thanks to OSM US for sponsoring this Meetup group.
