March Meetup: Github + Mapbox + Army

Details
On March 5 we'll gather to socialize, network, and hear about the work people are doing with maps, GIS, geodata, and more.
Here's our lineup so far - expect this to grow in the coming days.
*Alex Barth (https://twitter.com/lxbarth) from Mapbox is talking about local governments leveraging open data, specifically looking at how the New York City GIS Department release of building perimeter (https://www.mapbox.com/blog/nyc-and-openstreetmap-cooperating-through-open-data/) data paved the way for OpenStreetMap and governments to collaborate directly.
*Ben Balter (https://twitter.com/BenBalter), GitHub's mapping lead will walk through how to use GitHub to collaborate on geodata and and what the prospect of open source collaborative mapping can bring for the GIS community. The social code sharing service GitHub recently announced (https://github.com/blog/1772-diffable-more-customizable-maps) the ability for anyone regardless of skill level to diff maps - to visualize changes to geographies over time.
-
Liz Lyon (https://twitter.com/geographerliz) will talk about what it's like to be a transparent geographer working with the DoD.
-
Andrew Turner (https://twitter.com/ajturner), from Esri R&D DC will show some open-source and free tools that make it easy for data publishers and citizen developers to discover and re-use open geospatial data.
As usual we'll meet at 7:00 pm at the upstairs bar at Stetsons (http://stetsons-dc.com/index.php) at 16th and U Streets NW. Introductions and lightning talks will start at 7:30 pm. Stetsons is a 21 and over venue. If you're not yet 21 but want to attend, message us via meetup and we'll do our best to get you in.
GeoDC meets on the first Wednesday of the month to learn, network, and talk about the work people are doing with maps, GIS, geodata, and more. Join this meetup group, follow @Geo_DC (https://twitter.com/geo_dc) on Twitter, and join our Google group (https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups#%21forum/geonerds-dc) for updates.
Do you have something you'd like to share with the group? Let us know!
