Join us for our April meetup, organized jointly with our friends from the Society for Conservation GIS (SCGIS) DC Chapter!

SCGIS is an all-volunteer, U.S. based international network committed to advancing conservation GIS globally by building and supporting a vibrant community of conservation GIS practitioners.

We will network and hear lightning talks from awesome speakers:

Thayer Young from Cicada GIS and speaking on behalf of the Friends of Gwynns Falls Leakin Park and Old-Growth Forest Network, will talk about enhancing Baltimore's wilderness using GIS for grassroots forest preservation.

Joel Masselink from Creative Associates will present a personal project in progress assessing recent alarming expansion of semi-industrial mining in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

Pui-Yu Ling from Defenders of Wildlife will speak about a project working to identify strategic locations to foster forest regeneration and achieve global goals of mitigating climate change and restoring biodiversity.

About the venue (City-State Brewing Co.):

  • Metrorail accessible (next to Rhode Island Ave Station on the Red line)
  • Free parking available on the roof
  • Adjacent to Metropolitan Branch Trail (bikes)
  • Food vendor each night (see their website)

See you there!
