June Meetup!

Details

Join us for our next meetup! Come talk maps, data, and anything geospatial/geography. Everyone is welcome, including newcomers.
We have several awesome presenters this month:

  • Dan Joseph from American Red Cross will present on his work with the Red Cross Red Crescent global network using street-level imagery for humanitarian analysis workflows. He will focus on a work in progress to use Mapillary imagery as part of an automated mapping of tree canopy cover to create an informative layer for exploring which areas of a city might be at greater risk during future heat waves and for engaging people in discussions about green and nature-based solutions for climate adaptation. He will also talk about how Civic Tech DC (another local Meetup) has been helping out and opportunities to get involved with the project.

  • Jacob Kohn from Bandhu will present his technology startup’s work on connecting India’s rural-urban migrants to job and housing opportunities. He will focus on Bandhu’s geospatial data efforts as a case study, discussing the various challenges and opportunities in collecting, analyzing, and visualizing data within India’s informal economy. He will also discuss interactive web tools that are helping guide Bandhu’s initiative to help migrants make more informed decisions on when, where, and whether to migrate.

  • Do you want to present in the future? Send us a message on Meetup!

We will be at Sudhouse on U St, right next to the U St Metro Station. Lots of food and drink available to order while you chat with fellow geo-friends (including non-alcoholic options)!
