Join us on October 7, 2026 for the next GeoDC!
We meet each month from 6-9pm at Sudhouse DC on the 3rd floor.
Arrive between 6-7pm for Networking & Happy Hour Specials.
We begin the program around 7pm with our usual events + job announcements, then we’ll have our Geo lightning presentations.

Reshaping the map: cartograms in Python with carto-flow.
Cartograms reduce the visual bias of standard maps by resizing regions to match data rather than land area. In this talk, I will explain how continuous cartograms can be created using a diffusion-based algorithm and show how the open-source Python library carto-flow makes it easy to quickly generate cartograms. I will also give a tour of some of the other map visualizations in carto-flow, including symbol cartograms, tilegrams, proportional maps, and animations.
