December Geo DC: Mapping Real Life

Details
For our December meetup, we'll look at ways people are mapping data in their day to day lives. So far we have these lightning talks on the schedule:
Bruno Sanchez (http://twitter.com/brunosan) will share his experience mapping his training for the Marine Corps Marathon, and then turning and mapping statistics for all marathon finishers. Check out this blog post (http://bsan.eu/geekingMCM) for a sneak peak into his maps. Serdar Tumgoren (https://twitter.com/zstumgoren) will talk about mapping votes and OpenElections (http://openelections.net), a project working to make U.S. election results free and easy-to-use. With the help of a network of volunteers, the project will gather and standardize certified election results from all 50 states and link them to campaign finance, legislative, and other public data sets. Kathleen Danielson (http://twitter.com/KathleenLD/) will talk about how she mapped her trip around Europe and what different easy travel mapping apps and tools are out there. If you'd like to volunteer to give a five minute lightning talk on how you're mapping your daily data, hit us up with a message or on twitter at @geo_dc (http://twitter.com/geo_dc).
GeoDC meets once a month on the first Wednesday of the month to socialize, network, and hear about what people are doing with maps, geodata, geography, and location. We meet at Stetson's (http://stetsons-dc.com/index.php), right off of 16th and U streets NW. It's a bar, and 21 and over. If you're underage and want to attend, message us and we'll do our best to get you in. If you want food, we recommend the wings.
For updates, join this group and follow us on twitter at @geo_dc (http://twitter.com/geo_dc).
