What we’re about
Geografiets | Social Bike Tours 🚲
Discover the hidden sides of Amsterdam: one wind-direction at a time.
📅 When:
Once a month, usually on the second Saturday, from March through October. Each ride explores a different wind direction, so no two tours are ever the same!
🌷 Special editions:
Tulips, Zandvoort + National Park, Marken & Volendam, Zaanse Schans and the Peatwaterlands.
💶 Cost:
The tours are tip-based, but you can secure your spot with a €10 payment. This allows you to skip the waiting list and guarantees your place. Registration stays open until the day of the event, unless all 14 spots have already been claimed.
👥 Group size:
Maximum of 15 participants, including myself.
What we do:
These are not your average tourist-trap bike rides that rush you through the city in an hour. These are six-hour, tip-based social rides designed to help you connect with new people, enjoy the city of Amsterdam and its surroundings and discover places most tourists never see. Expect a relaxed pace, good conversations and a few surprises along the way. I won’t bore you with endless trivia but I love geography and will happily share insights about the regions, neighborhoods and landscapes we roll through.
Where your tip (and/or payment) goes to:
- My MeetUp membership fee which allows me to organize and announce these events.
- The planning, scouting, updating and organizing of all routes.
- A coffee or tea during the meet-up moment before we hop on our bikes.
- A (typically Dutch) snack offered during one of our breaks.
- Bike repair tools, a first-aid kit, sunscreen, and rain ponchos. Because we roll with the weather.
- Maintenance of my trusted bicycle Sleipnir (named after Thor’s eight-legged horse) which has carried me through all 344 Dutch municipalities, into the Alps and beyond.
- Fun upgrades and gear for the bike and hopefully soon a GoPro to capture our rides and create content while I bike through all 518 neighborhoods of Amsterdam.

Who I am:
Hi, I’m Ronnie! Born in Hoorn (a charming town 40 km north of Amsterdam), I now live in the lively and never-boring center of Amsterdam. By day, I’m a geography teacher, and I regularly contribute to creating educational geography materials for various organizations. Naturally I love cycling and enjoy taking on (very) long rides. In 2019 I biked all the way to the northern Apennines in Italy and in the summer of 2022 I completed a personal challenge of cycling through all 344 municipalities in the Netherlands.
I’d love to get to know you during one of these Social Bike Tours!
