The theme of this meetup is to look forward, to experience and discuss innovations and trends happening across the technology landscape today, things we're reading about in tech magazine articles, watching go viral in the business and consumer space, and think about how we can use them to improve the capabilities of our geospatial tools, enhance our geospatial data, do better spatial analysis, manage our data better, make better maps and better decisions in our work.
We've invited subject matter experts in the following areas, who can share with us what's "spatial" about the following rapidly developing areas of innovative technologies:
Blockchain and Geo - Peter Borovykh (https://www.linkedin.com/in/peterborovykh/) is a Solution Architect with Blockchain Driven (https://www.blockchaindriven.com/). Most of his research and work has involved using blockchain technology in the financial sector, but he has some ideas on how it can be used with geospatial data and tools in areas like data collection, content management, and user authentication.
Machine Learning and Geo - Brian Clifton (http://twitter.com/brianclifton_) is a Data Scientist with @BuzzFeed (https://twitter.com/BuzzFeed) who has done some publicized work recently with using maching learning to discover patterns and actionable trends that can be visualized on a map. Co-presenting are: Sam Lavigne, Special Projects Editor at The New Inquiry, and Francis Tseng, Co-Publisher of The New Inquiry.
Lidar for Street Data Capture to Support Autonomous Vehicles - Ro Gupta (http://twitter.com/ro_gupta) is Co-founder and CEO of recently (last week) launched CARMERA (http://carmera.com/) --a startup that provides a platform for real-time, street-level intelligence using a crowdsourced vehicular sensor network.
Chatbots as an Interface for Spatial Data and Analysis - Andrew Turner (http://twitter.com/ajturner) is Director of Esri's Washington DC R&D Center (http://dc.esri.com/). One of the many projects he leads is the use of chatbots as a natural ambient interface for using spatial data and tools for learning about and navigating your neighborhood using open data.
