What we’re about
I Ching; The Book of Changes
I was introduced to this ancient book; dating back to ancient Chinese philosophy of the times of Confucius & Lao Tzu, by my father who was a Psychoanalyst trained at the Carl Jung Institute in Zurich, Switzerland.
Incidentally, Jung had written the introduction to the first foreign (German) translation of the ancient book by Richard Wilhelm.
My father had explained to me that even though it was originally a ritualistic text for divination, Jung had found its value in being able to connect oneself to Racial Unconscious. In other words, it was essentially a route to the ancient wisdom within us all.
When facing critical situations in my life, he would suggest consulting the book to find for myself where I was (Self awareness), and the part I should play to overcome it.
The ancient methodology used for divination has undergone myriad changes, but essentially, one needs to determine the relevant hexagram (contained in the book as chapters) that will help to bring this revelation required as above. There are apps available now to determine what hexagram to read as applicable to one’s personal situation. The interpretation is of core value.
Over the years, through guidance of my father and personal practice with friends and family I learnt to appreciate the benefits of the readings.
I realized that one must believe in chance as opposed to causality, and trust our Unconscious to guide us in moments when we seek help from the book because the interpretations can be subjective.
The meet up group will start by exploring the essence of thought behind the book. We can move on to individual experience by personal readings based on your comfort level.
