What is 'citizen science' and how can nature photographers contribute? The talk will be centered primarily on the web data service of iNaturalist. Topics will include...
- Introduction and overview of iNaturalist.
- How does iNaturalist benefit nature photographers and how can they benefit the scientific community?
- What is an iNaturalist 'observation' and how can the photographer optimize its value to the community?
- Field shooting strategies, tips and techniques.
- Rob's workflow.
Bio: Rob Keeney is not a scientist, nor does he play one on TV. However, he has a life-long interest in the natural world. Though he rarely used his Biology degree in his professional career, it has contributed to his avocation as an avid nature and wildlife photographer. Rob began shooting wild flora and fauna in the late 1970s after he got his first SLR, a Minolta SRT 201. Interest in nature photography was rekindled decades later when he finally got his first DSLR, a Nikon D80. He still shoots mostly Nikon mirrrorless bodies with a variety of lenses along with his indispensable OM System TG-7 for macro subjects.
Rob is a fairly new member of GNPA having only joined in Spring, 2025 and had some immediate success with a few sponsored contests. You may have met Rob on the recent annual trip to the Smokies in October.
Join us! All are welcome. Saturday, January 24, 10am.
