CSR Land Trust Tour, Laverlea Preserve, Evans GA
Laverlea Preserve, 712 Blanchard Road, Evans, GA, USJoin us for a tour of the Sugarberry Hill house and an easy mile walk of its immediate grounds. The 344-acre estate was bequeathed to the Central Savannah River Land Trust (CSRLT) in 2022 by Laverne Dorn. The estate has a mix of woodlands, riparian forest, and open fields that were once used for cattle. With a grant from the Cornell Land Trust Bird Conservation Initiative, Birds Georgia partnered with the Central Savannah River Land Trust to transform one of the old cow fields into a native meadow for wildlife. Peach Tree Rock Heritage Preserve Hike
Peachtree Rock Heritage Preserve, 1200 Peachtree Rock Rd, Columbia, SC, USPeachtree Rock Heritage Preserve will take you on a trip back in time. We will meet for trail departure at the sand lot near the entrance. Roughly 30 minutes out from Columbia. We will start on the loop trail and determine from there if the group chooses to see more of the area.
Layered sandstone formations, riddled with the fossils of ancient marine creatures, crop up on either side of the well-kept trails. Native longleaf pines tower overhead. Near the preserve’s entrance, the only natural waterfall on the state’s coastal plain splashes into a small pool. Rich in culture, history, unusual geology, plants and wildlife, Peachtree Rock Heritage Preserve is a wonderful and educational place to visit. A kiosk near the preserve’s titular formation – the now-toppled Peachtree Rock – describes the area’s unique natural offerings. Dogs on leash, No restrooms.
