Join us for a scenic guided hike through Red Top Mountain State Park with the backdrop of Lake Allatoona for Veterans Day**!**

The group will discuss the protection of public lands, the current state of outdoor access for Georgians, and how the Sierra Club has historically advocated for equitable access to public lands in the state of Georgia. Leaders from the Military Outdoors campaign will be present to discuss veteran-specific initiatives, such as expanding the free park pass offering to all veterans, service members, and Gold Star families, as well as highlighting recent studies on the positive health outcomes associated with increased access to nature for the military community. Participants will also learn more about the Battle of Allatoona Pass, which played a pivotal role in the Atlanta Campaign during the Civil War, and how conservationists, historians, and the military have come together to preserve battlefields as living classrooms for future generations. People are welcome to register on the Sierra Club Georgia Chapter website or at this link in the announcement. All are welcome to join, but veterans, military personnel, and their family members will be given preference.

Please bring comfortable walking shoes, sunscreen, bug spray, and a water bottle or canteen. Refreshments will be provided. This outing is free of charge, but a Georgia State Park fee of $5 applies to all visitors except those with a valid GA State Park pass.

This event will be hosted by Military Outdoors Senior Leader, Lornett Vestal, and Chapter Outings Specialist Devin Cowens. Please be on standby for additional details a few days before the event. We can be reached via email.
