Details
●Panel: Engineering for Weather Temperature Extremes.
Theodore Stott, PE, PMP, Capital Project Manager at Oglethorpe Power Corporation
Dr. Charles Calmbacher, Certified Industrial Hygienist, Principle of Occupational Health & Safety Services, LLC
Ian Rish, PE, State Materials Engineer, Georgia Dept of Transportation
Been cold in Georgia – better than up north. Will be hot in the summer – other places hotter.
●Freeze thaw cycles damage pavement & heat = soft asphalt
●Solar Cells & EV batteries output diminishes.
●Soils heave & damage utilities, & foundations.
●Steel cold temp emrittlement
●Utility demands peak. ●Lubricants degrade.
●Thermal expansion / contraction – road pavements buckle, suspended cables & guy wires lengthen.
Weather / climate = problem. Engineers known problem solvers
