Smapshot: A participative time machine to georeference historical images

Details
Thimothée Produit and the Mediamaps team will present Smapshot, a platform aimed at recreating a virtual globe of past time. Smapshot allows volunteers to georeference historical images of the world in three dimensions. Since 2017, 161'322 images have been georefenced by more than 500 members. These images, coming from various collections, allow us to go back in time to the end of the 19th century with a very high resolution. During this presentation, we will learn more about the underlying georeferencing algorithms and the collaborations that led to the success of this project.
