About the German Tradition of the Stammtisch
In Germany, there is a tradition of gathering regularly with friends at a designated table in a local eatery to debate important issues in a relaxed atmosphere, engage in casual conversation, and enjoy each other's company.
For people who are learning a foreign language, this tradition has come to include language-specific conversation groups. These groups hold regular meetings with other learners/native speakers of the same language to practice the foreign language within the context of a casual conversation. (French Stammtisch, Spanish Stammtisch, German Stammtisch, English Stammtisch, etc.)
