description:
the goal is to have a calming space for those who are experiencing stress and anxiety to be out in nature.
A sit spot is a specific location in nature that you choose and visit repeatedly. It's not just any place to sit, but a place where you can become familiar with the sights, sounds, smells, and other sensory details around you as the seasons change. It is a well researched practice that is beneficial for both physical and mental health. Plants produce phytoncides that have antibacterial and antifungal properties. When inhaled, phytoncides can have positive effects on human health, such as reducing stress, boosting the immune system by increasing natural killer (NK) cell activity, and potentially lowering blood pressure and heart rate.
Every Sunday, there will be an opportunity to meet at 7am at Pinckney park on James Island and spend 30 minutes sitting dispersed out in the forested area of Pinckney park. Afterwords, there will be an optional 20 minute reflection time for those wanting to stay and share some reflections from their time. All ages are welcome as long as they can engage in the activity without distracting others. Bring a chair if you’d like or sit on the ground and come enjoy the benefits that nature has to offer with us!

Every week on Sunday
