Get Outside Adventures Hike at Weverton Heights to Ed Garvey Shelter via Appalachian Trail
Come out and enjoy this 6.2-mile out-and-back trail near Knoxville, Maryland. Generally considered a moderate route, it takes an average of 3 h 3 min to complete. This is a very popular area for backpacking, birding, and camping, so you'll likely encounter other people while exploring. This hike will be dog friendly as long as they are on a leash and friendly. This is a Moderate Level Hike. This Hike is 6.2 miles long with an elevation gain of 1,213 feet.

** There is no Parking Fee for this event.

Hike Agenda:
10:00 AM Hikers check in, meet and greet in the parking lot.
10:15 AM Hike Begins
1:30 PM Hike ends at parking lot.

Suggested Equipment List

  • Day Pack with hydration pack or water bottles
  • Trekking Poles (Optional)
  • Sturdy hiking boots or trail sneakers
  • Weather appropriate clothing (Think moisture wicking and layers)
  • Hat or scarf
  • Trail snacks & plenty of water
  • Hand wipes / Toilet paper with zip lock bag to haul out.
  • Cell phone and camera with backup battery
  • Personal First Aid kit and any required medication. (Please let your trail guide know of any required medication.

What Level is the hike: This is a Moderate Level hike which is generally suitable for novice hikers seeking a bit of a challenge. The terrain will involve moderate inclines and may have some steeper sections.
Can Beginners attend this hike: Yes, we welcome beginners to attend this hike but please note, there might be some challenging sections throughout the hike with some being a little strenuous.
What is the pace of the group: 2-2.5 miles per hour, we will stop periodically for water and rest.
What type of hike is this: This is an out-and-back trail hike and will start and end at the same location.
What should I wear: A good rule of thumb is to dress comfortably and in layers. We always strongly encourage you to dress warmly, with moisture-wicking clothing, bring a hat, good shoes, and rain gear.
