G-O Hike: Dome Forest to Waiwhiu Grove Kauri Stand

Hi Get-Outsiders! Let's meet up for a walk at the beautiful Dome Valley.
We will meet outside the Running Store close to the Victoria Park market carpark at 8am, leaving to drive to the Dome Valley Tearoom carpark at 8.15am. We expect to arrive at the Dome Valley Walk carpark for a 9.15am walk start time.
Plan for the day:
• Walk some distance along the Dome Summit and Waiwhio Grove tracks and then back along the same trails (see http://www.trampingauckland.org.nz/dome_valley.htm) for reference.
• Lunch on the way back from the grove.
Bring packed lunch, drinking water (recommend 2 litres), sunhat, sunscreen, walking shoes, suitable clothing for the weather, raincoat.
Please note NO DOGS are allowed on this trip.
• Distance from CBD: 60km to Dome Valley from Victoria Park Market carpark
• Meet: 8.00am meet up outside The Running Store on Adelaide Street, we will be leaving no later than 8.15am. If you want to meet us at the Dome Valley, please plan to be at the Dome Valley carpark by 9.15am at the latest.
• Difficulty Rating: Moderate - some steep climbs
• Suitability: Suitable for people with reasonable fitness.
• Completion time: We expect to leave the Dome Valley by 2.30pm, back in town by 3.30pm.
• Footwear: Proper walking/hiking footwear please. Jandals are not suitable for the hike.
• Drinking Water: Please bring your own (2L advised).
• Toilets: There are public toilets before we start the hike.
• RSVP to this event: Please only RSVP Yes to this event if you are genuinely intending on coming. If your circumstances change and you are unable to attend please change RSVP asap to allow other people the chance to attend. If you RSVP and don't show up or contact us, it will be treated as a 'No Show'. If you don't show up without contacting us you may be removed from the group.
• Cellphone Coverage: May be patchy in places.

• Parking at the hike: Dome Valley Tearoom carpark.
• Transport/Car Pooling: If you can offer rides to people or wish to request a ride please mention this under the 'Conversation' section below and contact each other from there.
• Costs: Free event, however we suggest you contribute towards petrol costs for your driver (recommend >/= $10 per person to cover petrol/toll road costs for such a distance).
