Hello fellow Get‑Outsiders!

Come join us to explore the newly reopened Kuataika Track in Anawhata this August!

## Overview

A challenging but beautiful Saturday hike to get outside and enjoy nature! You can expect some great views, but there is a lot of climbing and steps to reach them so good fitness is needed for this one.

## Plan

Meet: New World New Lynn at 08.30am or at Kuataika Track parking area at 09.30am • Difficulty Moderate-hard - multiple long, steep sections, involving many stairs • Duration: Around 3-3.5 hours walking + breaks • Route: The track starts by crossing farm land, before heading down through the bush to a stream, and then climbing a ridge to a suspension bridge. After the bridge there is a steep climb with lots of stairs to another ridge and the trig point where we will stop for a snack/early lunch. We will then return to the car park via the same route. Depending on time and energy levels there are a few other tracks nearby that we can explore. • Finish: Back at the cars by just around 1:00 PM, those returning to New World can expect to be back by 2.00 PM • Parking and access: Parking is limited to around 15 cars so car pooling is strongly encouraged and we will be sticking to a lower than usual attendance limit. Access is 11 km down a narrow and winding gravel road so please allow extra time to get there safely • Toilets: There is no public toilets at the start point or along the track - closest toilets are 10 minutes drive down the road from the car park at the Anawhata Beach carpark.

## What to Bring

• Hiking shoes or boots are strongly recommended for this one, if not comfortable walking shoes with good grip will be needed • Plenty of water • A snack or light lunch • Warm layers — it’s mid‑winter • Rain jacket • Optional: walking poles, hat, camera

## Weather

We hike regardless of the weather unless conditions are unsafe (e.g., cyclones or earthquakes). I’ll check the forecast the day before and update everyone if needed.

## Safety

• This is a free, volunteer social walk • You are responsible for your own safety and wellbeing • Please stay on the track and walk within your comfort level • If you feel unwell or need to turn back, that’s always okay

## Accessibility

• Multiple steep sections with many stairs • Some uneven ground and roots • One short section of clambering up to the trig point • Track can be slippery and muddy

## Transport

• Parking is limited to approximately 15 cars, so car pooling is strongly encouraged and we will be sticking to a lower than usual attendance limit. • Access is 11 km down a narrow and winding gravel road so please allow extra time to get there safely.
