ATHLETIC Bethpage State Park Hike at 72 Schoolhouse Road Entrance

This hike is NOT for beginners. Please do not RSVP unless you can hike at the moderately brisk pace of 18 minutes a mile for 6-7 miles. To promote a good aerobic workout, there will be very few stops on the trail. NO DOGS ALLOWED.

Bethpage State Park is a hidden treasure in our midst. It features roughly 14 different trails which interlock around the perimeter of the park. It allows a creative hike leader to mix and match those trails and create new and different hikes. I will use my knowledge of those trails to give members a pleasurable hiking experience. The hike will be 6-7 miles.

Hikers should wear appropriate footwear and bring food and drink as needed. Please arrive on time since we will depart at 10:00 a.m. sharp. Seriously.

We will NOT be meeting in the large parking area adjacent to the picnic tables. Instead, we will meet at 72 Schoolhouse Road in Old Bethpage which is at the intersection of Schoolhouse Road and Frankie Lane. There is ample street parking in the immediate vicinity since we will be in a relatively quiet residential area.

I will walk with attendees to the next block where we will access the entry to the Bethpage State Park trails. We will explore different trails in the park at the hike leader's discretion, before we loop back to our starting point.

DIRECTIONS:

It would be most convenient for you to "google" 72 Schoolhouse Road, Old Bethpage, NY or enter this address in your GPS. Generally, access Round Swamp Road from the Northern State Parkway or the LIE and head south. Make a right turn on Schoolhouse Road and you will see the 72 Schoolhouse Road address to your right in about one block. If you are coming from the Bethpage State Parkway or Central Avenue, take Quaker Meeting House Road to Round Swamp Road, head north less than a mile and make a left onto Schoolhouse Road at the traffic light.

So......let's get up and go on a scenic hike on Sunday, June 1st!!
